Accused arsonist charged over fire in Halls Head on Christmas Day

A 26-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly lit a scrub fire in Halls Head on Christmas Day.

The man allegedly set fire to several areas of dry grass and foliage in a reserve on Templetonia Promenade around 10pm, before walking away. 

WA Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze before it spread to nearby properties.

About 50 square metres of bushland was burnt in the fire.

A man from Heathridge has since been charged with willfully lighting or causing a fire to be lit.

He is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court today.

Police say timely information received from members of the public was vital in the arrest of the man.

Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
