The City of Mandurah has launched a new Community Safety Strategy focusing on building strong and connected neighbourhoods.
Mayor Rhys Williams said the new strategy was a continuation of work started a long time ago and reflected a fresh approach for the City, with the aim of further enhancing community wellbeing through meaningful partnerships, proactive initiatives and creating better connections within local suburbs.
“Strong communities which are empowered to make change are at the core of creating an even better Mandurah for everyone,” Mayor Williams said.
“People told us they are seeking greater connections within their neighbourhoods plus access to information and resources to help them make their local areas the best they can be.
“This new strategy outlines a range of collaborative ways to build the capacity of local neighbourhoods, leading to resilient communities that are well equipped and informed to create safer, welcoming places.
“The City is committed to building even stronger partnerships with our community and stakeholders to develop a well-rounded approach to a connected community for all.”
Among the new initiatives is a two-year Security Incentive Scheme which offers a range of rebates to encourage the community to get involved in protecting their homes and neighbourhoods.
As part of the incentive scheme, the City will offer financial assistance up to $250 to residents for various safety measures including the installation of security cameras, improved lighting, and other home security enhancements.
The City has allocated $80,000 per year for two years to this incentive scheme, which will start in early 2025 with further information about guidelines and applications being released closer to the time.
The City has received grant funding from the Department of Justice which will provide support to residents to strengthen their home security through a number of projects to be delivered to create strong, connected local neighbourhoods.
