A turning of the sod ceremony held by the Shire of Murray has marked the start of construction for the new Ravenswood Community Centre.
The new centre will provide a welcoming and interactive meeting place for residents and encourage local people to get involved in their community.
The centre will include a main function space, a heat-and-serve kitchen, meeting rooms, offices, storage spaces and changerooms.
It will also have an alfresco area, outdoor space, and a playground.
Shire of Murray President Councillor David Bolt said the Shire was happy to support the Ravenswood community and congratulated those involved in the project.
“Creating quality spaces for people is a key focus area for the Shire of Murray, and the new community centre will contribute to that,” Councillor Bolt said.
“I want to congratulate the Ravenswood Community Group in particular for its leadership, vision, and consistent advocacy for the project on behalf of their growing community, and recognise our local Member, Robyn Clark MLA for her personal support.”
The State Government has committed $1.3 million in funding for the new centre, which will be located on Jones Lane.
The community centre is expected to open in mid-2023.
