The historic Exchange Hotel in Pinjarra is open for business following a major redevelopment.

The 150-year-old building has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, the once derelict pub transformed into a modern hospitality venue but still featuring several heritage elements.

The hotel has three bars, exclusive bookable spaces, a large-scale function area, and a gin distillery with a private tasting room.

The project has been in the works for several years after the Shire of Murray purchased the site in 2012.

From 1871 the tavern hotel operated under private ownership and was permanently closed in 2008.

Shire President David Bolt said after years of planning and significant financial investment, council is thrilled to see the redevelopment complete.

“We are very proud to see Exchange Hotel Pinjarra restored as an iconic destination venue for our community and visitors,” President Bolt said.

“On behalf of council, I would like to extend sincere thanks to the team at the Shire of Murray who have worked tirelessly to ensure this project comes to life. Throughout the project they have ensured that the preservation of the heritage and integrity of the building was a priority and
facilitated the development of an exceptional new chapter for the Exchange.”

“I would also like to thank operators Karl and Janine Bullers, who have brought the vision for the venue to life.”

Operator Karl Bullers said he is thrilled to see the Exchange Hotel open its doors once again.

“We are excited to be a part of the next chapter of the Exchange Hotel. It was very important to us to make sure we created a new venue that allows the community to reminisce on their old memories and make new ones at the Exchange,” Mr Bullers said.

“Our focus was to create a modern hospitality environment for people to come together and enjoy, all while preserving the heritage and history of this 130+-year-old building. We look forward to welcoming the community and visitors to the Exchange."

The project was co-funded by the Shire of Murray and the operators ($5.8 million), as well as a $2.34 Federal Government grant.
