Locals will have to wait until the end of this year to swim in the 25-metre indoor pool at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC).

A timeline has been released on the $6.7 million roof replacement project after the contract for the works was awarded to PCB Contractors in December.

The works will be separated into three key phases with phase one, the design stage, starting this week.

During the design phase, which is expected to take two months, contractors will be on site to undertake investigation works which will inform the design of the new roof above the indoor 25-metre pool.

Community members will see minor activity on site and some parking will be redirected to the large carpark opposite the MARC with access on the corner of Adana and Rigel Street.

Phase two will see the demolition and removal of the existing roof which will take another two months.

Phase three will be the new roof construction which is expected to last six months.

Once the 25-metre indoor pool returns to its full operation, the City of Mandurah will then complete some updates in the leisure pool adjacent.

These minor works include acoustic improvements together with some essential maintenance.

This is expected to take six weeks and during this time the leisure pool area will not be accessible to customers.

The 25-metre indoor pool has been closed since May 2021.

The City of Mandurah has thanked the community for their support and patience.

Updates will be provided to MARC members and the community throughout the project directly and via the City’s website.
