The NBL1 West finals kicked off at the weekend.

ROCKINGHAM FLAMES WOMEN

The Rockingham Flames women are one step closer to a grand final berth after beating the Perry Lakes Hawks 84-75 in a qualifying final clash at Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Robbi Ryan and Emma Gandini were instrumental for the the Flames with 24 points and 19 points respectively.

The victory sees Rockingham through to a preliminary final showdown on Saturday at Mike Barnett against the winner of the Warwick Senators and Lakeside Lightning game.

ROCKINGHAM FLAMES MEN

The Rockingham Flames men are still in the race for a second NBL1 West championship after a dominant 104-81 elimination final win over the East Perth Eagles.

After a successful last few years, taking out the NBL1 West and National Championships in 2022 and making last year's National Finals, the Flames finished seventh in 2024.

A big factor was the absence of two-time MVP Devondrick Walker who missed nine games due to injury.

Coach Ryan Petrik said the loss of Walker hit them hard but he's glad they rested him for longer then needed.

"It was part of the strategy in the regular season, we were on a massive losing streak something we've never been on in the last five years, but the whole plan was, we can still win this thing if we're healthy," he said.

"We shut him down for eight weeks to make sure he was cherry ripe for this time of the year and clearly that strategy paid off on Saturday night."

The Flames will next take on the Willetton Tigers in a semi-final clash at Willetton Basketball Stadium on Thursday night.

MANDURAH MAGIC MEN

The Mandurah Magic men had a tough matchup against reigning champions the Geraldton Buccaneers in a qualifying final at Active West Stadium.

It was neck-and-neck until the final minutes before star MVP Joel Murray was fouled out of the game after shooting 42 points for his side.

The Magic ended up going down by just six points but that doesn't mean the end of their finals run.

They get a second chance on Friday night against the Goldfields Giants at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre having finished fourth in the regular season.

"I think this will be massive," Coach Mark Utley said.

"We need as many people as we can in the MARC and have that really pumping."
