Two Secret Harbour mates are just one win away from becoming Olympic gold medalists after their track cycling team broke the men's team pursuit world record in Paris.

Conor Leahy and Oliver Bleddyn along with Sam Welsford and Kelland O’Brien beat Italy in their first-round heat at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines National Velodrome overnight.

Their time of 3:40.730 beat the previous record by more than a second sending them through to the final gold medal ride against Great Britain at 12.33am AWST.

Australia have not won an Olympic gold medal in the men's team pursuit since Athens in 2004.
