Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich and Member for Darling Range Hugh Jones MLA present Mundijong Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade’s Les Harris with a certificate to recognise his 45 Years of Service.

Several local firefighters and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have been recognised at the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale's Emergency Services Awards Night.

More than 50 volunteers received recognition for their service late last month.

One of those volunteers recognised was Mundijong Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade’s Les Harris, who was awarded for a staggering 45 Years of Service.

Carolyn Fawcett and Christine Morris, who each volunteer with the Emergency Support Brigade, were recognised for 30 Years of Service.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich congratulated award recipients and thanked all local emergency services personnel for their work in keeping the Shire safe.

“We live in a community that often feels the brunt of natural disasters, from bushfire threats in the summer to harsh storms during the winter,” Cr Rich said.

“This makes our local volunteers in SJ particularly valuable to our community. Their tireless effort and dedication in not only responding to emergencies, but also ensuring our Shire is prepared in the lead up, is remarkable.

“It’s also important to recognise the families of volunteers. Their dedication, patience and support play a major role in enabling and empowering our emergency services personnel.

“This awards evening is an opportunity for us to say thanks and recognise the effort of everyone who works hard to keep our Shire safe.”

The 2023 instalment of the awards night marked the first time the Shire held the evening as an official civic event.
