The speed limit on George Street in Pinjarra is set to be reduced to 40km/h.
The Shire of Murray recently voted to support plans by Main Roads to lower the speed limit.
The decision comes after a number of recent accidents in the town, including a collision between a vehicle and a mobility scooter, and separately, a cyclist being struck by a vehicle.
It’s expected the lower speed limit will help reduce the number and severity of incidents in the town.
“We have a duty to build a socially connected, safe and cohesive community in the Shire of Murray, and by supporting these speed limit changes we’re helping ensure an improved and safer pedestrian space for people in Pinjarra," Shire of Murray President David Bolt said.
Main Roads is responsible for the approval and management of speed zones within all road networks.
It is progressively changing speed limits in town areas in the South West to improve safety for pedestrians and reinforce the need for drivers to be cautious.
The changes are expected to come into force in mid-2023.
