The State Government has released over 480 hectares of land in Karnup in a bid to boost housing supply in the region.

The site, located near the Kwinana Freeway and close to the proposed Karnup train station, is primed for development into residential, commercial and educational facilities and has the potential to deliver around 4000 homes.

As part of the land release, the Government will invite developers to put forward proposals to support new housing on the land, under two development models - a partnered approach or direct purchase of the land.

Under the partnered model, successful proponents will collaborate with DevelopmentWA to plan, design, and develop the sites.

Alternatively, the sites may be sold to a successful proponent for full development.

An Expression of Interest process is now open, which closes on October 30, 2024.

Shortlisted proponents will be invited to participate in a Request for Detailed Proposals process in early 2025, with the preferred proponents expected to be finalised in mid-2025.

"My Government is driving major reforms and initiatives to unlock more land to boost housing supply across the Perth metropolitan area," Premier Roger Cook said.

"WA's growing economy and enviable lifestyle are attracting people to our state, which is why we are calling on industry to partner with government to continue to address future demand for housing."
