The State Government has committed to a new private marina in Rockingham.
The proposed marina will be located at the intersection of Wanliss Street and Rockingham Beach Road, with the government now calling on expressions of interest for the development and operation of the project.
Minister Assisting the Transport Minister David Michael said Rockingham has long been identified as a prime site for a future marina.
“This is a significant development opportunity in a fast growing part of the metropolitan area that will deliver crucial coastal infrastructure with economic and social benefits for the State and community," he said.
Liberal candidate for Rockingham Hayley Edwards said Rockingham already had approved plans for the Port Rockingham Marina but the Labor government failed to sign the seabed lease, ultimately halting the development.
"This isn't a fresh start, it's a false start," Ms Edwards said.
"Labor had years to make this project happen and failed at every step.
"We've already lost one investor because the government didn't follow through. Why would anyone else take the risk?"
Mr Michael said any work already undertaken on the development will be built upon to expedite the new marina.
